I recently learned about RBAC Map, and it’s a useful resource for anyone working with Microsoft roles and permissions.

If you manage Microsoft environments, you’ve probably run into this question: “Which role does this person actually need?” Role names give you a starting point, but understanding what they allow takes a closer look.

RBAC Map brings together information about Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, and other Microsoft service roles. Its interactive map and role pages provide a way to explore permissions, scope, common use cases, and security considerations. You can browse its Microsoft Entra ID roles or review individual Azure roles such as Contributor.

The practical value is having somewhere to start when reviewing access. Before assigning a broad administrative role, you can look through the available options and identify a role that better fits the task.

I’d use it as a reference alongside the Microsoft documentation linked from its role pages. It’s helpful for researching an unfamiliar role, preparing for an access review, or explaining permissions to someone else.

If roles and permissions are part of your work, RBAC Map is worth bookmarking.
